Phillip Hirakis

Phillip George Hirakis.  Phillip passed away on February 14, 2012.  He was a native and resident of Battle Creek.  He obtained an Associates of Business Administration from Kellogg Community College.  Phill served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1970; stationed in the Philippines, Korea and the States. After the Air Force, he began work at Post Cereals where he retired after 36 years.  Throughout his life his favorite past time was enjoying time with his wife of almost 40 years, his children, their spouses, and in the last few years his grandchildren. He was a history enthusiast and coauthored a book on World War II uniforms as well as being an avid collector of WWII relics. During the warmer months, he loved to drive his red corvette everywhere. Phillip was a long time and active member of the North Avenue Church of God and American Legion Post #298.  Phillip married Mary L. Burt on August 5, 1972.  Survivors include Mary, his wife of 39 years; son Kevin (Theresa) Hirakis; daughter Madeline Hirakis (Kostas) Poulakidas; granddaughters, Maria and Ana Poulakidas, Julia Miklusicak, Kailey (Dan) Fulmer and great-granddaughter, Olivia Fulmer along with cousins and countless friends. He was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa and son. Phillip will be forever missed by his family and friends. He loved life and will be remembered by his gentle spirit, unconditional love and devotion to his family and peaceful acceptance.
