James Paul Elrod

James Paul Elrod. James passed away at the age of 55 on Saturday, January 20, 2001, in Battle Creek Health System. He was a native of Battle Creek and a resident of Bedford Township at the time of his passing. After attending Battle Creek public schools, James served his country in the U.S. Navy. He married Suzanne Plummer in 1966 in Battle Creek, and they later divorced. He married Doris “Dottie” Marion on Aug. 4, 1989, in Battle Creek. He was employed as a police officer with the Marshall Police Department for several years, transferring to St. Louis to work for the Department of Corrections. He later transferred back to Marshall. He also was employed by Ferree’s Music Shop and C.A. Picard as a machine operator for several years, was an operations manager for Coach Travel Unlimited of Battle Creek and was the owner of Fleet Maintenance and Creative Tours of Battle Creek. He most recently was a cook for Clara’s on the River and Don Pablo’s restaurants. James was a former member and past vice commander of American Legion Post 298. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and especially cooking. Survivors included his wife Doris (who passed away in 2004); a son, Michael Elrod; a daughter, Carrie Elrod; a stepson, David Nolan a stepdaughter, Becky Jessup; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert C. Elrod.
