      Carole Ann Sims Lee-Garten

Carole passed away on February 28, 2022. She was a native of Kennett, Missouri and a resident of Michigan. In 1965, Carole married Bill Lee and they had one daughter. In 1969, Carole moved to Los Angeles, California where she worked for 32 years in Nursing at Daniel Freeman Medical Center and 7 years at the VA Hospital in Long Beach. In 2018, Carole relocated to Eastpointe, Michigan where she met and married Charles Garten. Together they enjoyed providing music & singing to the residents in their apartment building. Carole was raised in the Church Of God In Christ and accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Grace International Baptist Church, Detroit, Michigan where she served on the Mothers Board under the leadership of Rev. Walter Allen Steen. Carole enjoyed putting puzzles together, bowling, garage sales, puzzle books, singing, traveling, shopping, and had a true passion for talking. She never met a stranger. She knew everyone and everything!! She was a very outspoken person. Carole enjoyed spending time with her family and she enjoyed being the oldest sibling. She lived her life to the fullest with laughter and love, reminiscing of "back-in-the -day-when," playing cards. Her favorite game to play was Uno, and don't try to cheat, she knew the rules by heart. Survivors included Carole’s husband Charles; daughter Sabrena Brown; sisters Marilyn Savage, Janet Ferguson, Margaret Sims, Renee' (Steve) Sims-Irby, Sarah Sims, Jeanette McCarty; Annette Usher and Stephanie Walker; brother Cecil Grantham; special son-in-love Eld. Timothy E. Brown; grandson Brae' LaQuincian Brown; grand-daughters Brittany Cheyenne Brown and Summer Alice Brown; special sisters Elder Brenda Tennell and Ms. Rita Johnson; special cousins-in-love The Nesbitts and a host of loving nieces, nephews, uncles, cousins, and friends. Carole was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Patricia Brown, Rose Sims, and Jackie Benson.

After reading that incredibly wonderful memorial, I was moved to tears.  Carole grew to be a bright Light in our world, and I only wish we could have been friends after BCHS.  But Carole went her way and I mine, to my own loss.  

Thank you Carole, for being part of my early journey.  You are missed very much.  Dance with joy.

I do remember Carol she always was a very happy young girl, I am sorry for your loss, but another gain for heaven, but you did well Carole, now rest in peace sister, we will meet again!
