
Leroy Brendum
Leroy passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024, in Battle Creek, Michigan following a brief illness. He was a native of Battle Creek and lived in the area most of his live. Leroy entered the United States Army on June 24, 1966 and served several years, which included a deployment to Germany for 2 years. Leroy was honorably discharged on June 23, 1969, attaining the rank of SP4. While he was in Germany, a sister set up a subscription to the Battle Creek Enquirer so he could stay current on the local news in his beloved hometown. In 1973, Leroy married Linda Robinson, a union that ended in divorce a few years later. In 1990, Leroy married Starlene Kreps and they were together until divorcing in 2002. Leroy spent most of his working career in grocery retail management, retiring after 35+ years of service. Leroy was known for his infectious sense of humor and making funny, cartoonish voices. He loved cats and was especially fond of his fur-baby Lucy, who will no doubt miss her human. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and had a heart for those experiencing challenging times. He devoted time to serving others through volunteer work at the Haven of Rest Ministries in Battle Creek. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Shirley Slayton, Frances Noud and Barbara Boblet. Survivors included Leroy’s sister Edie (Bob) Eifler; nephews Rick (Pam) Kinney and Scott Slayton; nieces Kathy (Dan) Hinton, Cindy (David) Pierce, Robin (Bill) Smith, Penni Eigster and Tracy (Andrew) Babick; close friend Ken Rosenborough; and numerous great nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him.
