Susan Elizabeth Gilbert (DeRossett)

      Susan Elizabeth Gilbert DeRossett

Susan died peacefully at her home in Battle Creek, Michigan on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. She was united in marriage to David Allen DeRossett on December 10,1965 at First Presbyterian Church, Battle Creek. While David was serving in the navy, Susan delivered and cared for their daughters. Susan earned her bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and was employed as a dental hygienist for many years in several local dental offices. She served as a Cereal City tour guide at the Kellogg Factory, taught aerobics at the Y Center, was involved in Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and volunteered at Planned Parenthood. Susan enjoyed ceramics, arts and crafts, gardening, and cooking. She could laugh at herself, and had the reputation of having minor accidents, acquiring the nickname of “Miss-hap.” Susan and David traveled often, spending time hiking in the Grand Canyon, parasailing in Florida, exploring Hawaii, rafting in the Carolinas, and enjoying Italy along with other destinations. She loved to share their memories of all they had experienced. Susan was known as “Nana” or “Grandma D” to her grandchildren. She loved to play, laugh, and read books to them, and always made sure everyone had more than enough to eat. She loved her family and grandchildren more than anything. Later in life, David devoted himself to lovingly caring for her in their home. Susan will be dearly remembered for her intelligence, wonderful sense of humor, extraordinary strength, and unconditional love for her family. Survivors included her husband David; two daughters, Debora (Steven) Silvers of Powell, OH. and Laurie DeRossett Roubos; four grandsons, Drew (Nicole) Roubos, Erik (Beth) Silvers, Luke Roubos (partner Jamie Osterhout), Evan Silvers; a great-grandson, Andrew Roubos III (D.J.), and a great-granddaughter, Avery Roubos. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, a stepbrother, David Jenney and a stepsister, Diana Burrill. Follow the link below to view Susan’s full obituary.

Suzie was a bright spot as she bounced through the halls of BCHS.  Cute as a bug with sparkling smiles for everyone.  How could anyone forget her.  She was a joy to know.
