Thomas John O'Brien
Tom passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at his home in Livingston, Tennessee. He was a native of Battle Creek, Michigan and had lived in Livingston since the 1970s. Tom graduated Kellogg Community College and Central Michigan University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in business and economics. In 1970, Tom married the former Miss Carolyn Ruth Winton, a 53-year union that ended with Tom’s passing. In Livingston, Tom was an active member of his community, serving as the Director of the Overton County Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Rotary Club for many years. For years, Tom worked as the Manufacturing Manager for Berkline Corporation, a maker of reclining furniture. For the past ten years, Tom faithfully served the families of Overton County through his work with Speck and Livingston Funeral Homes. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, traveling, watching sports, and driving the van for the First United Methodist Church where he was a member. Most of all, Tom loved his family dearly. Survivors included Tom’s wife Carolyn; sons T.J. O'Brien (Jessi) and Matthew O'Brien; grandson Declan O'Brien; brother Joe O'Brien; niece Jennifer Johnson (Brooks); three nephews; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. I met Tom when I moved to Battle Creek my sophomore year. We were neighbors in Urbandale and became good friends. He was a great guy with a warm demeanor. I was very saddened to hear of this passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to Carolyn and his family. RIP, good buddy!
