Gerald Douglas Gerry Storey

      Gerald Douglas “Gerry” Storey

Gerry passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2025.  Gerry was a native of Battle Creek, Michigan and a resident of Sacramento, California. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War monitoring nuclear bomb testing from a base in the Philippines. He moved to Sacramento in the 1970s and graduated from Sacramento State with an MA in Art (Photography). Gerry enjoyed teaching photography for several years at Yuba College and later owned a commercial photo lab until his retirement. In 1981, Gerry married the former Genevieve M Troka. Gerry was grateful to receive a lifesaving heart transplant at Stanford Hospital in 1994. A longtime resident of Curtis Park, he could often be seen riding his recumbent bike flying a pirate flag. He loved movies, the theater, and exploring the back roads of the West. Gerry also collected books and loved to read. Always an optimist, he was playful, full of life, and his passing leaves a huge hole in our hearts. Gerry was predeceased by his parents Gerald and Georgina, and is survived by his wife of 44 years, Genevieve; brother Greg (Sonia); nephew Jason (Sarah); brother-in-law Ben (Gayle); sister-in-law Diana (Chris); and longtime friend Tom (Linda), as well as several nieces, nephews, and many friends. I remember Gerry as always having a smile on his face!  I didn't know him well but that smile said it all; my condolences to his family.

I've known Gerry since eighth grade, and I remember long days playing chess (he usually won), playing cards, and arguing about everything, someimes arguing just to test out new ideas. He was a good friend, and although distance and time kept us apart through the years I still considered him a good friend and an important voice in my life. I met his wife Genevieve a couple of times through the years and I am glad she was at his side at the last. Thank you, Gerry, for being a great friend and encourager.

I will always remember Gerry for the fun he always injected into any gathering.  His laugh and smile were infectious.  He will always be remembered by his friends.

There are so many great high school memories to sort through and Gerry is in them all. We were good friends and everything from our regular poker games to some of the mischief we enjoyed as kids were the stuff great times were made of.  Although Gerry and I lost touch over the years, he will forever be a part of my life and will not be forgotten..  He was a special person and together with Mike, Sue, Tom and others we shed a tear of sorrow in his passing.  We're so glasd to have been ablel to share a part of our lives with him. Rest in peace dear friend.
