            Robert Joseph "Joe" Straubel

Joe passed away December 2, 2019 in Surprise, Arizona. Joe was a native of Battle Creek, Michigan and lived in the Lansing, Michigan area for many years before retiring to Arizona. He played varsity football and baseball and was a pitcher in high school. He also played baseball for the American Legion Custer Post #54 in his junior and senior years. He married the former Susan Alderman on June 3, 1978 and they shared 42 years together. He retired from Fisher-Body after 30 years. He loved golf, and MSU sports. Some of Joe’s special interests included music, philosophy and psychology, and painting. Joe was preceded in death by his wife Susan in March 2019; parents, Robert Straubel and Lois (Willey) Straubel - Guthrie; and sister and classmate Lois “Tootie” Straubel Robinson. Survivors included Joe’s daughter, Sherree (Vince) Zea; 3 grandsons, Lorenzo Zea, Francesco Zea, and Leonardo Zea; great-grandson, Luciano and one on the way; brother, Willard “Butch” Straubel; nephew, Harrold James Robinson; and many other family members and friends.

I'm sad to say goodbye to a baseball and football teammate. As a young teenager he pitched and I played center field. Then later at Central, we were teammates once again on the football team. Joe was always such a very nice person. I was sad to see his wife died only 9 months before his passing. RIP.
