In Memory

Thomas James Wightman

Thomas James Wightman

      Thomas James “Jimmy” Wightman

Jimmy passed away on May 16, 2023. He was a native of Battle Creek, Michigan and a resident of Dowling, Michigan. In 1973, Jimmy married the love of his life, Dianne Cunningham. He worked as a truck driver for the Teamsters’ Union for various trucking companies for 37 years before retiring. Jimmy had a strong love and passion for music. If it was something he could tap his toe to or had a good melody that made you feel something, he enjoyed it. He tapped his toe, but his hands carried the beat. He played from the beat of his heart and was very musically talented himself, having known how to play several instruments including the piano, guitar, and the accordion. He also loved old classic cars and trucks and attending car shows. He loved working on cars and engines, taking cruises on his motorcycle with friends, as well as watching NASCAR. Above all, Jimmy’s biggest love was for and with his family. He was a true family man who made sure his family was always taken care of. Survivors included Jimmy’s wife Dianne, son Michael (Jennifer) Wightman, daughter Julie Kaufman and sister Collene Roberts. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and even great-great nieces and nephews. In addition, he was also survived by his “bonus” grandchildren, Constance, Kaiden and Madison.  Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, sister Shirlene, brothers Bob and Dick, and brother-in-law Jack Roberts. Jimmy was a kind soul who always had a smile on his face, a helping hand to lend and was always up for a good laugh. Every person he ever met left a better person than they were before coming in contact with him.  He will be missed.
