Janis Swan (Buser)

Janis Swan (Buser)

Janis Swan Buser.  Janice passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was a native of Battle Creek, Michigan but lived many years in Rockford, Illinois. After graduating from the University of Michigan in 1969, Jan remained a loyal Wolverine who always flew her M flag on game days.  Before starting a family and relocating to Rockford, Jan worked as a dental hygienist in Battle Creek. She later pursued a career in library science, earning her master's degree from Northern Illinois University. Jan worked for many years in the library at East High School in Rockford and continued to volunteer in the public school system after she retired. Jan was blessed to have made life-long friendships with her colleagues in both Michigan and Illinois.  Jan cherished her whole family and was especially proud of her children. She was a caring and incredibly positive individual who will be remembered by her friends for her kindness and generosity; as a woman with a big heart and a big smile who opened her home to many. Her compassion for animals was boundless; she truly cared for every living thing, especially her dogs.  Survivors included her brother, Edward T. "Ted" Swan (May); her daughter, Melanie E. Petronzio (Ed); her son, David S. Buser (Rachel); her grand-daughters, Julia Petronzio, Grace Buser, and Eve Buser; and her nephews, Eric Swan and Matthew Swan (Becky). She was predeceased by her parents, and her brother, David Swan.

I did not personally know Janis, but as a Bearcat, I am sorry for her loss.

Janis was one of the most intelligent people in school as well as a lady.

My Twin Carol and I grew up with Janis all the way from Fremont Elementary to BCCHS.  She was always an "A" student and never misbehaved.  Her smile and beautiful eyes are the same in her recent picture as in her elementary school picture.  She was truly a gentle soul.

Jan and Mel Buser and I were in a lot of classes together in high school and were good friends. Then we all ended up at Michigan where we remained friends and kept in contact. Jan had the misfortune of developing Hodgkins's disease while in college and courageously endured a very rugged chemo and radiation protocol and    became what at that time was an unusual long term surviver. i saw here only rarely after college as I never came back to Battle Creek other than for visits but she was always that same wonderful sincere caring friend.  I have only the most fond memories of our time together. I am so saddened to hear she is gone. Great person!

Janis and I went to Fremont Elementary, but we were never in the same class.  I really got to know her in high school, and we would get together over the summers, going to Goguac Lake. i remember going to her wedding, and how she beat Hodgkin's disease. She was good friend, had a great personality, and a wonderful smile. I am truly saddened by her passing. My prayers go out to her family.

How sad that Janis has passed.  We were in several classes together at Central and she was a great friend.  We never did much outside of school, but she definitely was a bright spot in every day (together with Melvin Buser, Calvin Wallace, Lois Reynolds Janson, Bob Humbarger, Sandy and Carol Berry, Jackie Blackmar, Johnny Jacobs, Denny Franks, and Janet Edwards Oursler, to name a few).  Do any of you feel so old as to be losing so many classmates already??? I surely don't!

The loss of friends continues.  I only really knew Janis as a girl/young woman.  It's nice to know she was also a kind, generous, intelligent "woman in full."  Her passing is very sad.  She is missed.
